Strong defense helping to lead Mendon volleyball as district play draws closer

MENDON, Mich. — Mendon volleyball is enjoying a season for the ages. The team has 30 wins on the year, and still has time to add to that number before reaching district play.

The Hornets are young -and small. There’s just three seniors on the squad with only eight total players on the varsity squad.

The short rotation has allowed the fourth ranked team in Division 4 to get plenty of experience and repetition throughout the year, but it’s their defensive efforts from the entire group that have led them to so much success.

“There’s been a lot of talk, like at practice,” said senior Brianna Heitkamp. “The first thing we do is defense because it can lead to other parts of a practice, like hitting or setting and it’s just been big for us.”…
