KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A tree lighting event was held Thursday night at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo for its annual Tree of Love campaign.
The annual fundraiser has been happening since 1985, with proceeds going to patients who are in need of life-saving early breast cancer detection screening services.

This year’s event is also raising money for patients in need of cardiac procedures in the hospital’s catheterization lab.
“In the past 10 years we’ve supported 580 patients, both men and women, with mammography services,” Kim Loftus, chief development officer of the Ascension Borgess Foundation, said. “We also have expanded the campaign to support cardiology services because a woman or a man who have breast cancer and receive chemotherapy are greater risk for cardiac conditions, like cardiovascular disease or a heart attack.”…
