Midland, MI – The University of Findlay men’s soccer team traveled to Midland on Saturday, Oct. 5 to take on Northwood University in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) match-up. The Oilers put on an impressive offensive display, defeating the Timberwolves by a score of 4-2. This victory marks the first time in school history the Oilers have won a game in Midland, as they have lost the previous seven games hosted by Northwood. With the win, the Oilers now stand at 6-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in conference. For the Timberwolves, they fall to 1-6-1 and 1-4-0 in G-MAC play.
The Oilers offense came out firing on all cylinders, netting three goals in the first 45 minutes of play. Getting the scoring started was Freshman Joey Chirco, who put one home in the 21st minute. Getting on the board next was an another freshman, when Dustin Komlosan scored his first collegiate goal in the 32nd minute. Wrapping up the first half for Findlay was Brendan Ash, who recorded is team leading fifth goal of the season in the 43rd minute. The Oilers were able to add one more goal in the second half with Brendan Wishart adding a score just three minutes after play resumed. The Timberwolves did not go down without a fight, however, scoring two straight goals of their own in the 49th and 83rd minutes.
Wishart’s play proved to be the difference for the Oilers, as he provided the spark the team needed coming off the bench and providing valuable minutes. Along with scoring his first goal of the season, he was also able to record an assist to grab his first three points of the season…
