New York is experimenting with installing 6-layer permeable street pavement (that will require intense cleaning and maintenence every spring and fall) to reduce stress on our drainage systems, is currently squandering $2.8 billion rebuilding the corners of sidewalks with slightly lower curb cuts to theoretically make things a bit easier for the handicapped and is now considering spending $800,000 each on raised crosswalks that will double as speed bumps — requiring ripping up and rebuilding those same new sidewalk corner curb cuts.
No wonder Boston, with 4 million people has a $4.2 billion annual budget while New York with 7.75 million inhabitants spends $110 billion each year —waste, mismanagement, “pay-to-play” and utter disregard for how money is spent (something you see with every property tax bill that arrives) is why…
