The Yemassee community is on edge Wednesday night, after 40 primates escaped from Alpha Genesis Primate Research Center, according to the Yemassee Police Department.
These primates are being used for biomedical research, so residents fear the animals could carry disease. Yemassee officers are working with staff members at the center located on Castle Hall Road utilizing thermal imaging cameras to try to quickly round up the escaped monkeys. Traps have also been set up around the area.
