Last-minute shoppers flock to Portland’s pop-up holiday markets : ‘Puts the heart in our city’

PORTLAND, Oregon — Downtown Portland drew droves of last-minute holiday shoppers on Sunday, promoting small businesses and pop-up shops. Families enjoyed fake snow showers at Director Park and discovered small, temporary storefronts filled with work crafted by artisans throughout downtown.

“I got these nice earrings and they’re handmade. I bought two pairs!” said shopper Connie Haynes, who was visiting from Los Angeles. “I love the little, small shops and the little kiosks.”

Every shopping day counts for small businesses like those in Morgan’s Alley on Southeast Broadway, including Newk’s Hot Sauce, one of the PDX Pop-Up Shops. Every year, Downtown Portland Clean & Safe helps independent businesses turn empty storefronts into their own brick-and-mortar shops, even if just for a season…
