Former Beloit Sky Carp catcher Joe Mack named top minor league defensive catcher

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — The best defensive catcher in all of minor league baseball last season was former Beloit Sky Carp catcher Joe Mack. Mack has won the 2024 Minor League Rawlings Gold Glove Award for that position. The award covers all 11 full-season Minor Leagues. Mack started last season in Beloit. He appeared in only 13 games before he was promoted by the Marlins to AA Pensacola. Between the two teams, Mack committed only one error all season, and he threw out 33 of 96 runners attempting to steal a base. Mack also had a productive season at the plate. In Beloit he had a .347 batting average with 2 home runs and 13 RBIs. In Pensacola he swatted 22 more home runs while driving in 65 runs. Mack was drafted by the Marlins in the first round (31st overall) in 2021.
