From left, David Goode, Sarah Cambra, Rylan Smith, Luke Bauser and Joe Cambra landed 330 fish on Belton Lake on Friday morning over a four-hour span. Already excellent fishing at the lake got even better as last week’s cold front cooled the water closer to the white basses’ preferred temperature range. Courtesy | Holding the Line Guide Service

Rattle off all the superlatives you like … most excellent, greatest, best, fastest, most productive … they would all accurately describe the white bass fishing on Belton Lake currently.

Fall fishing on Belton Lake is normally very productive, in fact, my own statistics show fall fishing is often on par with, or more productive than, spring fishing. Adding icing to that cake is the often more stable fall weather we enjoy, and much reduced fishing pressure as Central Texans migrate toward hunting, kids’ sports activities, football and the avoidance of cold weather.
