Hundreds brave the winter weather for Copperas Cove’s 26th annual 5K to the Polar Bear Plunge

COPPERAS COVE — One day ahead of an expected icy winter blast, hundreds of runners and cold-water daredevils gathered Saturday morning at City Park in Copperas Cove for the 2025 5K to the Polar Bear Plunge.

After three laps around the designated 5K course, with temperatures in the mid-40s, and an awards ceremony for top finishers, dozens of hardy souls lined up around the City Park pool and jumped into the 39-degree water. Some came out of the pool nearly as quickly as they went in.
