Community groups distance themselves from Towamencin supervisor after TikTok post

MONTGOMERY CO., Pa. – After posting a TikTok video of herself making what appeared to be a Nazi salute, a Towamencin Township Supervisor has resigned her position on the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library board.

On Friday, Township Supervisor Laura Smith posted a video of herself on TikTok saying “just checking in on my friends who are struggling this week, my heart goes out to you.” Smith ends the video with a salute resembling a Nazi salute.

According to a post on the library’s website Saturday, the library board of trustees “has accepted the resignation of board member Laura Smith, due to conduct that does not align with the library’s values. The views expressed in the TikTok video are in direct conflict with the mission and principles upheld by the Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library, its Board of Trustees, staff, and the community it serves.”…
