Billings water bills surge, residents seek answers; City Council to hold special meeting Monday

BILLINGS, Mont. – The City of Billings is addressing rising concerns about high water bills across the town. The city acknowledges resident frustrations and is asking for patience as they work to respond to everyone who has reached out.

A new billing system was supposed to start in February. However, technical issues delayed its rollout to June, during peak water usage. This delay caused a 60-day billing period, which has led to confusion for many residents.

The city did increase waste-water, water, and sewer rates by an average of 8 percent for each service. However, the meters that read water usage have not changed. To help residents understand their bill amounts, the city encourages using online resources to view historical usage of their property…
