Retiring Birmingham police chief joins University of Alabama as deputy chief

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBMA) – Retiring Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond will be taking on a new role with the University of Alabama Police Department (UAPD.)

In a media release, the University of Alabama says Thurmond will assume the role of Deputy Chief beginning December 2.

“Chief Scott Thurmond is a remarkable police leader who has served his community with dedication, professionalism and integrity for many years,” said UAPD Chief John Hooks. “He has a tremendous amount of law enforcement and public safety experience. Police leaders across the state speak highly of Chief Thurmond’s character, abilities, knowledge and commitment.”…
