The resident of a house on Fairfax Road died Monday from injuries sustained in an early-morning fire that destroyed the home. A discarded cigarette or other smoking material was the cause.
Upon learning that an older person who seldom left lived in the house, a Monroe Fire Protection District firefighter entered through the back portion of the structure, which wasn’t yet engulfed by flames. He found the resident unresponsive and pulled them outside, where lifesaving measures ensued.
The victim was pronounced dead at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Their identity won’t be released until it’s confirmed after an autopsy…
