Homes needed for dogs rescued from Georgia animal shelter following director’s arrest

SAVANNAH, Ga. — The urgent effort to find homes for dogs from the Georgia Animal Rescue and Defense (GARD) shelter is underway after the shelter’s former director was arrested foranimal cruelty in August.

The Georgia Department of Agriculture ordered GARD to stop housing animals, creating a dire situation for the remaining dogs. Advocates quickly worked to remove the animals from the property, but their mission is far from over.

Michelle Holloway, a former GARD volunteer and dedicated dog foster, is one of many people stepping up to help. “My dog was rescued from GARD, and on that property at one time, I felt that in my heart I could step in and help some of these pups out,” Holloway said…
