US 278 Corridor Improvement Project faces major setback in funding woes

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Hilton Head Island Town Council passed aU.S. 278 Corridor Improvement Project in June 2024 to expand and revitalize the bridges heading onto the island. However, the cost of the bridge rises every day, and the county is tens of millions of dollars short.

“What sources of revenue might be out there? What cost are we going to incur?” said Beaufort County Commission Chairman Joseph Passiment.
