Flights out of Southwest Airlines’ Illinois hub to be powered by green, sustainable aviation fuel

Southwest Airlines has announced a groundbreaking sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supply agreement with Valero Marketing and Supply Company, the largest of its kind in Illinois. This SAF, derived from waste-based feedstocks like used cooking oil and animal tallow, could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 84% compared to conventional jet fuel. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker praised the agreement, emphasizing the state’s commitment to sustainability and clean energy.
