UToledo’s Ritter Observatory reopens its doors to the public

The Ritter Observatory at the University of Toledo has a new look. Renovations just wrapped up, and staff are reopening the doors to the public.

Between the COVID-19 pandemic and renovations being done, it has been more than three years since the public has been able to stargaze from the observatory’s 40-inch diameter telescope, one of the largest east of the Mississippi.

“We did a lot of optical alignment with the mirrors. We had the entire telescope painted,” says Dr. Michael Cushing, the interim director for the Ritter Observatory. “Then this last year, we had the interior of the building painted – so the walls and the dome that the telescope sits in.”…
