JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – It is finally here, fall! The autumnal equinox occurred at 7:43 am. And high pressure over the Easter US spells out fair weather for us but not very fall-like. Afternoon highs will climb to the low 90s, with feels like temps flirting with 97, mid-afternoon. 86 and 64 are our normal highs and lows for today. Sunny and above normal temps will continue through mid-week, when we’ll start to put the forecast models into overdrive, for a couple of reasons.

The first issue, a cold front that is getting its act together out over the plains. By Tuesday, its approach will increase clouds and rain chances for us. The second issue, the tropics. We’ve been watching the western Caribbean for tropical development. The National Hurricane Center puts a 70% chance for a tropical depression within the next 7 days in the Gulf of Mexico. It could also mean just a broad area of low pressure. Either way, wind and rain will be destined for one or more of the Gulf states, in the Thursday through Saturday time frame.
