BROOKSVILLE – On a special Monday Night Lights edition of Hernando County football, the Hernando Leopards (2-3) took down the Central Bears (3-3) on the road 41-7. While the home team had been enjoying a solid first half of their season, Head Coach John Scargle and the Leopards’ schedule had gotten off to a rockier start.
Monday night’s game flipped that script. The Purple and Gold came in with a focus on the trenches, and it paid off. After a relatively close first half where Hernando controlled the ball, the visitors wore down the Bears in the second half.
“We knew our offensive line had to step up and start really playing like they are capable of playing, and tonight they did,” Coach Scargle said. “They pretty much took it to the D-Line of Central, opened just some gigantic holes for our running backs and our quarterback. We didn’t have a real great night throwing the ball, but we didn’t need to because we were running the ball so well.”…
