Judge orders another mental exam for Grand Island rest stop murder suspect

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) – A Grand Island judge ordered another mental examination for a man charged in a deadly June stabbing on Interstate 80 near Grand Island.

Court records show District Judge Andrew Butler ordered an examination Wednesday for 22-year-old James Thompson Jr. of Elyria, Ohio.

Thompson faces 11 felony charges connected to a double stabbing at the westbound rest stop near the South Locust Street exit. Those charges include murder, attempted murder, assault, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, two counts of attempted robbery and five counts of use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony…
