Alabama star wide receiver Ryan Williams almost committed to Texas A&M over the Crimson Tide coming out of Saraland (Ala.) High School in the class of 2024, he shared with Alabama director of player personnel Bob Welton on a recent episode of the New Wave Podcast. Williams said former Alabama wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins nearly swayed him to the Aggies after he left Tuscaloosa for the co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach position in College Station last offseason.
“At the end, it was Texas A&M,” Williams told Welton when asked who was runner-up in his recruitment. “Coach Wiggins almost got me. I mess with Coach Wigs.”
Williams rated as the No. 8 overall prospect and No. 3 wide receiver in the class of 2024. He initially committed to Alabama on Oct. 8, 2022, but decommitted on Jan. 10, 2024, the same day Nick Saban announced his retirement. He took official visits to Texas A&M, LSU and Auburn in the months after Saban’s retirement but ultimately re-committed and signed with the Crimson Tide on Feb. 7.
