Everything HC Buzz Williams, Wade Taylor, and CJ Wilcher said after Texas A&M’s 92-54 win over ACU

No. 13 Texas A&M is rolling right now, and the Aggies look every bit like a top-15 team in the nation. They are doing it in a blue-collar, no-nonsense way under the watchful eyes of head coach Buzz Williams. Overall, the Aggies are playing cohesive offense and defense, while star guard Wade Taylor IV moved to second place in the program’s all-time scoring list.

The Aggies started the season rough on offense, shooting close to 35% as a team, but their stifling defense, elite rebounding, and ability to get to the free-throw line kept them in every game. As they started to stack quality wins, they also found their shot. A&M handled ACU with ease and got everyone involved in a 38-point victory.

After the game, HC Buzz Williams, Wade Taylor, and CJ Wilcher spoke to the local media. The team will head into the New Year on a six-game winning streak and host the Texas Longhorns to start SEC on Jan 4. Here is what they had to say after the win.

Buzz speaks on Wade Taylor IV returning

“I hate that he had to miss his first game ever. I think, in hindsight, the rest was probably right. He brings not just his talent. He brings some calmness to our group, and I think he makes our other players on the floor better. That was pretty evident today.”

A&M played much better than last week against HCU

“I thought we were pretty efficient, other than our turnover rate. There were some gaps, mostly in the first half. Our free-throw rate was pretty good. There was some poise… I thought our staff did a good job of preparing our guys for how they play.”

The Aggie veteran team is has grown through the tough non-conference schedule

“I do not think that we’re the best team with the most talent or the best coaches. I do think we’ve played a hard schedule, and I do think that has forced us to grow and mature. What I’ve really grown to admire is who they are, how their parents raised them, how consistent they are.”

This 2024-2025 team is the most complete team he’s had in a few years

“I think everybody is excited to come to work, and I don’t think it matters how hard the work is or how hard it lasts. It’s a lot of intangible things that you feel, and I think that it’s special. I’m thankful to be a part of it.”

Wade Taylor IV on moving to No.2 in all-time scoring

“It’s a blessing. I’m thankful to be here. I’m thankful for my coaches and teammates… Hopefully, we can keep it going.”

The Aggies took care of business before starting conference play

“I feel like we came out today and played with a lot of energy. We were excited to be back on the court together after one week. I feel like our ceiling is pretty high.”

The Aggies will open up SEC play against Texas and they are ready

“I’m excited. Conference is always a great time. You get to see who is who. You get to really fight with your brothers every day. … Conference is what it’s all about”

CJ Wilcher is happy to be at A&M in realizes its bigger than just him

“I’ll be remised to not be faithful in these moments. It’s great to be around these people every day. I just ask the Lord to facilitate love and use me however he sees fit.”…
