Roots Matter: Jefferson tree council accepting nominations for Heritage Trees

If trees could talk, what stories they’d tell. For now, they depend on people like Jimmy Mock. Mock, a forestry educator, has spent his life around trees. In early September he joined members of the Jefferson Tree Council on a “tree tour” to check the status of the city’s Heritage Trees.

The council, an all-volunteer organization, created the Heritage Tree Program in 2006 to recognize trees whose exceptional features contribute to the city’s quality of life, as well as encourage supportive green canopy policies…
