ACAP Executive Director and CEO Alan Jones was recently honored with an Impact Award from the New York State Community Action Association as the agency looks to celebrate a service milestone and continue its work across Essex County. — ELIZABETHTOWN | Adirondack Community Action Programs, Inc. (ACAP) has been serving the needs and advocating for Essex County since 1965. With ACAP Executive Director and CEO, Alan Jones, recently being honored with an Impact Award from the New York State Community Action Association, ACAP continues to display why it is an essential agency.
“Essex County has its unique economic, geographic and environmental challenges,” Jones noted. “ACAP is a lifeline for many residents, offering programs that empower individuals to build better futures for themselves and their families.”
ACAP is one of 38 community action agencies in New York State and one of 1,000 nationally. Created during Lyndon B. Johnson’s presidency on his war on poverty, the agencies started when Johnson signed the Economic Opportunity Act into law on Aug. 20, 1964.
