Vermont restaurant announces closure but says new business to arrive by year’s end

A restaurant that opened in Middlesex nearly four years ago has closed, but will soon be replaced by another business.

The Filling Station began in February 2021 in, as the name implies, a former garage along U.S. 2 between Waterbury and Montpelier. The restaurant opened as a burgers-and-sushi spot but, as the eatery’s website shows, moved on to emphasizing house-smoked barbecue.

“We have some bad news and some good news!” according to Oct. 30 posts on The Filling Station’s social-media accounts . “The bad news: The Filling Station has closed its doors. The good news: something new is coming to the space before the year’s end!” The posts do not specify what business will take over but note that holiday parties and pop-up events are being scheduled for the building in the meantime…
