Goodfellows: The Zellous Hope Project is spreading the message of empathy in McKees Rocks

When McKees Rocks native Denise Zellous first set out to make a difference in her community, she already knew what most people without homes, the recently released from incarceration and those recovering from years of drug abuse needed most to reemerge into a new life.

She’d lived it herself.

“Empathy is the mother of hope,” said Ms. Zellous, a certified peer specialist, repeating the motto of the McKees Rocks nonprofit she founded in 2011,the Zellous Hope Project. “And it is our reasonable duty to give birth to that hope.”…
