Hundreds more Montana inmates headed to private prisons in Arizona, Mississippi

MISSOULA, Mont. — Private prison company CoreCivic has announced it will contract with the State of Montana to transfer 240 inmates to the company’s 2,672-bed Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Tutwiler, Mississippi in the first quarter of 2025.

“During January 2025, CoreCivic also received an additional 120 Montana inmates at the Company’s 1,896-bed Saguaro Correctional Facility in Eloy, Arizona, under an existing contract with the state of Montana,” a press release from the company states.

CoreCivic notes in the press release that this will bring the total number of Montana inmates housed in the company’s out-of-state facilities to 600. CoreCivic also owns and manages the 664-bed Crossroads Correctional Center in Shelby, Montana…
