Boston Commuters Face Another Day of Delays on MBTA Orange Line Amid Smoke Reports and Disabled Train

Boston commuters faced significant delays on the MBTA Orange Line for the second consecutive day, as separate incidents disrupted the service. On the preceding day, a disabled train at Back Bay station had brought the line to a standstill during the crucial morning commute hours. The MBTA had to suspend Orange Line service between Back Bay and North Station for over two hours, with riders advised to switch to the Green Line or Commuter Rail alternatives, MassLive reported.

Yesterday afternoon saw another setback as the Orange Line was again interrupted, this time due to reports of smoke near the Green Street area of the tracks. Shuttle buses were rapidly deployed to replace service between Forest Hills and Jackson Square. “Orange Line: Shuttle buses replace service between Forest Hills and Jackson Square while personnel continue to respond to a report of smoke in the track area south of Green St. Please expect delays as buses are dispatched,” the T stated in a post on X, according to NBC Boston.

The repeated transit disturbances follow the MBTA’s announcement that it had cleared a significant backlog of repairs throughout the past two years.
