PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The countdown is on for a possible SEPTA strike Friday morning, and the School District of Philadelphia is making contingency plans.
Some 55,000 students in the district ride SEPTA to classes each day. Superintendent Tony Watlington said students who are late or absent because they can’t get to school will be excused. In a statement to staff, he said virtual classes will only be held if a school’s student or staff attendance is dramatically affected by a strike.
“I respect the right of union members to advocate for themselves,” Watlington said. “I do hope that this strike can be avoided so that we can continue to operate normally and support the social, emotional and academic needs of our students without disruption.”…
