Cold weather shelters open in communities across South Georgia ahead of wintry conditions

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) – Warming centers open in many counties across South Georgia ahead anticipated freezing temperatures.

Forecast shows that temperatures will drop into the low to mid-20s.

Here are the warming centers that will be open:

LOWNDES COUNTY

SUMTER COUNTY

Calvary Episcopal Church located at 408 S Lee Street in Americus will be open as a warming station beginning at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, until 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22 If the temperature is below freezing on Wednesday night, the shelter will be open then as well.

THOMAS COUNTY

The Fountain of Life Rescue Shelter will be open at 612 East Clay Street in Thomasville. In addition to their normal schedule of Thursday through Sunday nights, the shelter will extend operation for Monday, Jan. 20 through Wednesday, Jan. 22. The doors will open at 6 p.m…
