Black students look for way forward after latest racial incident in Saline schools

SALINE, MI – In the days after an alleged racist incident involving students in Saline Area Schools, members close to the district’s minority community say they’re still finding ways to talk about concerns in hopes students learn from what has begun to feel too commonplace.

Superintendent Steve Laatsch released a statement Saturday, Sept. 14, condemning an issue with hate speech reported to administrators at the end of the school day the previous Friday.

The district has not released details about the incident while it’s under investigation, though students suspected of involvement have been identified…
