Man Fatally Shot by Ravenna Police on Hike and Bike Trail After Stabbing Incident, BCI Investigating

A fatal shooting involving Ravenna police officers took place this morning on the Portage County Hike and Bike Trail, according to News 5 Cleveland. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) has taken charge of the case, which left one man dead and another in stable condition at a nearby hospital after suffering a stab wound.

Responding to a report of an attack, police encountered a man armed with an ax who had just stabbed another individual. The officers, two of whom fired their weapons, were not injured during the altercation that took place at approximately 11:45 a.m. WKYC reports that the Hike and Bike Trail through Ravenna is closed until further notice between Freedom Street and Loomis Parkway.

The deceased individual, whose identity is not released pending investigative processes, is believed to have engaged in some argument with the stabbing victim, as stated by Ravenna Police Captain Jake Smallfield in an interview with News 5 Cleveland. Both the victim and the attacker were reported to live in a local “tent area” known to house homeless people…
