Penn State defensive Tom Allen called Saturday’s blowout win over Kent State from the coaches’ booth in the Beaver Stadium press box, coach James Franklin confirmed during his postgame news conference. Allen had called the Nittany Lions defense from the field during the first two games of the season.

The Penn State defense turned in a stellar performance in a 56-0 victory over an overmatched Golden Flashes squad. Kent State mustered only 67 yards of total offense, which ties for the eighth-fewest allowed by Penn State since 1947. The blowout victory tied for the fifth-largest margin of victory in the Franklin era.
