Missourians who have electronic benefits transfer (EBT) cards for their food stamp benefits are being warned about a sharp rise in the theft of those cards. The Missouri Department of Social Services said thieves are stealing information off the cards with an electronic device or through websites that pretend to be legitimate.
Dana Carrington, the Department’s Chief of Investigations, said the fraud is happening all across the U.S.
“It’s because it’s so easy to do,” he told Missourinet. “The bad actors are putting EBT cloning devices, or skimming devices, on point-of-sale machines at EBT retailers, basically grocery stores.”…
