Oceanside Police appoints new Assistant Chief of Police

McKean steps into the position vacated by Taurino Valdovinos, who became Police Chief following the retirement of former Chief Kedrick Sadler on November 10.

“Captain McKean brings nearly 22 years of distinguished service, a strong work ethic, and an unwavering commitment to the Oceanside community. His dedication to the City of Oceanside and the Oceanside Police Department will undoubtedly serve him well in this critical leadership role,” stated the department in a news release.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, McKean began his lifetime of service in 1982, enlisting in the United States Marine Corps immediately after graduating high school. Over a distinguished 20-year military career, he rose to the rank of first sergeant before retiring with honor. While on active duty, McKean attended the Palomar Police Academy from July 2000 to September 2001. Upon graduation, he began his law enforcement career as a Level 1 Reserve Officer with the Oceanside Police Department.
