Cases of Norovirus expected to rise in 2025

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Cases of Norovirus are on the rise in parts of the U.S. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, recent data shows that there were 91 outbreaks the week of December 5, 2024, up from 69 the last week of November.

Norovirus is highly contagious. The virus causes inflammation in the stomach and intestines and can lead to several symptoms including: diarrhea, vomiting, fever, headaches, tiredness, and muscle aches.

WANE 15 spoke with Infectious Diseases Healthcare Epidemiologist with Parkview Systems, Dr. Scott Stienecker who says that the virus tends to cycle. He says that in 2024, there were about half the cases of norovirus as there were in 2023 but he expects a change this year…
