FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – Give yourself more time for the morning drive as snow-covered roads will slow you down. While highways and most major roads look to be treated and in good shape, rural roads and side streets have a coating of snow that will cause less traction. Be sure to increase your stopping distance and pace your commute as needed. Additional lake effect snow is expected today. Spotty flurries will kick in throughout the day off Lake Michigan, bringing in a trace to an inch of snow (with the full inch more likely along the Indiana/ Michigan border).
First Alert Weather Days – Sunday evening & Monday: Alert Days have been issued for the regional snowstorm that arrives for the state Sunday into Monday. Heavy snow and travel impacts will be concentrated in central and southern Indiana, but southern portions of 21Country could be included in this. Indianapolis is likely to see double-digit snow totals. At this time, areas to the north of Fort Wayne look to have minimal impacts. North of US-30 will likely receive 1-3″. A sharp increase in snow is expected the farther south you travel from Fort Wayne. A general area along US 24 and US 224 will be in the ballpark of 3-5″ and even higher snow (5-8″) is possible through Grant, Blackford, and Jay counties. With still a bit of wiggle room with this system, some adjustments may be needed in these snow totals as we near Sunday and Monday. Take these numbers as an initial estimate to plan around but know that updates are likely up until Sunday and you’ll want to stay tuned. We’ll give you the First Alert to any big changes you can expect!
