RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — North Carolina’s next General Assembly will be sworn-in Wednesday, January 8 — but one political party will not return to Raleigh with the same amount of power that it had in its last session.
Governor Roy Cooper, a Democrat, finished his second and final term with a major obstacle. Republicans held a super majority in both the state Senate and House which meant the Governor’s veto pen had little power and Democrats had little sway when it came to legislation.
