The best way to get real-world experience in classes students are taking is to immerse them into the every-day lives of those who were once in their shoes. Oelwein High School Basic Mechanics and Electricity teacher Todd Kastli is helping students get that taste of the real world through local businesses.
On Nov. 7, students in the Basic Mechanics and Electricity class went and toured Arnold Motor Supply’s machine shop in Oelwein. Arnold Motors employee Nic showed students where engines came into the shop, where the initial cleaning happens and how the engine parts are checked for cracks or defects.
Some of the class’s small engine machines are machined in a business setting, similar to the same projects they take on in their shop class but cannot be completed in certain aspects…
