Swapping cuffs for controllers: Project ONE connects with kids through video games

As part of Oelwein Police Department’s ongoing community outreach program, Project ONE, one officer has geared up in a different way to connect to Oelwein’s youth.

Oelwein Officer Gage Voshell, one of the force’s newest members, has instead grabbed a keyboard to play video games with kids at Parkside Elementary on Friday, Dec. 20, as students got out of school early to enjoy the start of Christmas break.

Other officers joined Voshell at Parkside’s eSports room to see what all the hype was about — and to see what games have evolved from the Nintendo and retro Pong days…
