Local veteran to receive Congressional Gold Medal for service in Vietnam War

WASHINGTON ( NEWS10 ) — A local military veteran will receive national recognition for his longtime service to the country. Bob Nevins will be awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.

He served as a dustoff helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War and helped rescue injured soldiers and civilians. He continues to help others as the founder of Alliance180 . The organization provides peer support to veterans, first responders and heathcare workers to address the effects of trauma.

“This recognition isn’t just for me,” said Nevins. “It’s for every Dustoff crew member who risked their life to save others. We weren’t just soldiers—we were there to preserve life in the middle of chaos. Every mission reminded us how precious that was.”
