McConnellsburg 45, North Star 40. The Spartans visited the North Star Cougars on Monday, December 16th for an ICC non-divisional game and in close contest maintained a consistent lead from the second through fourth quarters to secure the win. Brayden Ramsey led with 14 points and Hoyt Glenn with 12 points. The team combined for 16 blocked shots to hold the Couger total scoring down 14-points from their last two wins.
The Spartans (3-1 overall, 0-0 ICC South) and Cougars went back and forth evenly scoring to end the first quarter at 13 points apiece. The second quarter again saw nearly even scoring with the Spartans holding a two-point edge at the halftime buzzer leading 24-22. The third quarter ending had the Cougars commit four team fouls with Spartans none and stretching the lead by four and ahead 32-28.
In the fourth quarter with one minute left, the score 38-35 Spartans, the Cougars proceeded to commit five fouls in the next eleven seconds to send the Spartans to the foul line in hopes to gain quicker possession. With 31.8 seconds remaining, the Cougars coach called his last time out and trailed 41-37. The Cougars cut the lead to two late in game, at 42-40, with a down low shot, a foul and made free throw. But the Spartans simply kept poise, the ball play spread out, and quickly got the ball inbound and up court to run out the clock and topple the undefeated ICC West leader…
