If I can be honest, I’m kind of scared of seafood in the Midwest. I can’t see the sea past all the corn and soy fields. Here in Central Illinois, we’ve got wonderful small farms raising local poultry, steak, and pork, too, and that usually satisfies, but the other day, I had a hankering for crab.
I’ve passed Golden Crab off North Prospect countless times over the years, and when I saw Smile Politely had never reviewed the seafood restaurant before, my crab craving led me and my friend to check it out.
Located in a sea of national chain restaurants and big box stores, local restaurant Golden Crab has a menu of seafood, fried chicken, gator bites, fried oyster, sandwiches, pasta, soups, fried rice, and appetizers.
When my friend and I walked in, we didn’t realize it was a table service restaurant. The dining room looked nice, and there were many tables including ones for large groups. The sea theme was seriously incorporated with nautical decor throughout.
A host greeted us and took us at a table covered with white paper by the Christmas tree.
Our server brought menus over to the table and took our drink order. In addition to water, tea, and soda, Golden Crab had a full bar offering beer, wine, and spirits…
