A snow storm and airport closures can’t stop Louisiana’s Washington Mardi Gras from rolling

WASHINGTON – Louisiana had only begun to reopen airports Thursday morning after a blizzard, but Washington Mardi Gras was in full swing.

An initial round of invitation-only cocktail parties the night before the party officially started Thursday morning were well attended by people who had traveled from Louisiana before the snow fell and the temperatures dipped into the teens.

Usually, many people arrive in Washington on Tuesday and Wednesday. But south Louisiana’s airports were closed and its roads were impassable…
