Halloween in DC: Haunted houses, trunk-or-treat, more

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Halloween is just one week away and many Washingtonians are getting ready to show off their best costumes!

To help families in D.C. celebrate, D.C.’s Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE) are inviting the community to dozens of Halloween events.

From haunted houses to drive-in theaters, Mayor Muriel Bowser is encouraging families and loved ones to join the festivities.

“We want everyone to enjoy the excitement and fun of Halloween while staying safe,” said Mayor Bowser. “We need drivers to slow down. We need parents and guardians to be watching their kids closely. We want families to join us at events across all eight wards and we want everyone in DC to work together to make this a safe, fun Halloween.”

If you are ready for a thrill, several haunted houses will be set up across D.C. to invite the community on a spooky and eerie walk.

  • The Barry Farm Recreation Center : Oct. 29 through Oct. 31. Guests can visit the house from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • MPD’s 1D Station, 101 M Street SW : Oct. 29 through Oct. 31, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • MPD’s 3D Station Garage, 1620 V Street NW : Oct. 29 through Nov. 2, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • The Youth and Family Engagement Bureau, 5002 Hayes Street NE : Oct. 31 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Trunk or treat events happening across the District

  • ONSE’s 2nd annual Trunk or Treat Fall Festival,100 42 Street NE: Oct. 31 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • MPD’s 7D Station, 2455 Alabama Ave SE: Oct. 31, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Harvest Fest at Benning Terrace, 4450 Benning Road SE: Oct. 26, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Harvest Fest Trunk or Treat at the JC Nalle Community School, 219 50th Street SE: Oct. 31, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • MPD’s 2D Station, 3320 Idaho Ave NW: Oct. 31, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • MPD’s 4D Station, 6001 Georgia Ave NW: Oct. 31, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

DC Costume Parade

  • The Arboretum Recreation Center, 2412 Rand Place NE , will host a costume parade on Oct. 30, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

DC One FUN Drive-in Movie: Haunted Mansion

If you are looking to catch a movie and experience a drive-in theater, DPR is hosting its drive-in movie night at Langdon Park. On Oct. 25, starting at 7 p.m., guests can watch the Disney movie, “Haunted Mansion.”

Halloween Costume Skate Party

With an evening filled with thrilling music and creepy costumes, the Kennedy Recreation Center is hosting a Halloween costume skate party. On Halloween day, the event will include a candy drop that will feature the DC Fire and EMS Department’s 24-foot ladder…
