As college students made their way back to campus last week, university officials across the state and country were preparing for the inevitable — the return of pro-Palestinian protesters.
You may recall how earlier this year pro-Palestinian supporters at two of our flagship colleges, the University of Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth University, set up encampments (i.e., “Liberation Zones”) where “students” — including outside agitators — erected tents, held hands while dancing and chanting, and hurled insults at both Israel and their respective college presidents. These protesters vehemently denounced the Israeli government and the Israel Defense Force (IDF) for retaliating against Hamas militants following the massacre of nearly 1,200 Israeli citizens on Oct. 7, 2023.
