CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Areas of dense fog will give way to clouds and some breaks of sun on this Sunday. A brief break in the rain through tonight. Expect wet weather at times for the new work and school week ahead.
As first alerted, Saturday evening would be stormy. There were some reports of wind damage and hail Saturday evening as a cluster of severe thunderstorms moved southeast over the Shenandoah Valley and portions of Nelson County.
Rainfall amounts were highly variable. Some areas only a ground dampening. While other areas that saw a couple thunderstorms, received more than two inches of rain Saturday evening!
I expect much of central Virginia to be taken out of drought and even abnormally dry conditions when the new drought monitor is released Thursday morning. Also, some improvement in the drought for the Shenandoah Valley.
As thunderstorms arrived from the northwest Saturday evening, many saw a shelf cloud.
