Women’s Tennis Takes Down Cumberland 5-2

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University Women’s Tennis team posted a 5-2 win over Cumberland University Thursday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The non-conference battle is the lone dual match of the fall schedule.

The Lady Flames (1-0) swept the doubles competition to take an early 1-0 lead. Ashleigh Simes and Maria Penalver made quick work of Ame Van Eijk and Elina Sungatullina by a 6-1 margin. Mirjana Ragastovac and Nicolette Fuhr were 6-2 winners against Lara Esteban and Valeriia Grianna. Kanna Kobayakawa and Vitoria Maximiliano doubled-up Email Nowak and Maria Jose Arbelaez 6-3. Simes dropped just one game to Kaede Hatano in a straight set win at No. 1 singles. Kobayakawa pushed Lee’s advantage to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles against Van Eijk.
