VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WKRC) – Pop-up costume store Spirit Halloween appears to have pulled a controversial costume accessory following backlash.
According to KTLA, Spirit Halloween was accused of selling a tone-deaf costume accessory in light of recent school shootings and threats across the United States.
In images sent to KTLA, the accessory, a “bullet belt,” can be seen next to a “plaid schoolgirl tie” in what customers described as a “prep school” display apparently marketed to teens.
WAVY visited two Virginia Beach-area Spirit Halloween locations and found the “prep school” display at both. According to KTLA, the accessory left some shoppers concerned with how it might come across to young children…
