Data shows early voting popular in Tri-City areas without hotly contested local races

With two weeks to go in the 2024 election season, early voting trends across the Tri-City area show localities without hotly contested elections are outdrawing those that are.

In Dinwiddie County, for example, early voting for this year is actually ahead of the 2020 pace. According to data compiled by the nonprofit Virginia Public Access Project, 3,877 ballots have been cast in the county – just over 200 more than four years ago, the first time no-excuse early voting occurred.

The only contested local election in Dinwiddie this year is in the town of McKenney, where incumbent Mayor Meagan Haire Abbey is being challenged by Town Councilor Preston Ray Hancock.
